Pamela Taylor OBEHome << Supporting statement

"Water is an important part of a healthy and wholesome diet, and drinking enough each day helps promote well-being. It is also a part of the Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1992 Regulation, placing requirements on the employer with respect to the provision of drinking water for its employees.

The Consumer Council for Water supports the Water at Work campaign, and we will work to help employers and their employees to recognise the important health benefits of staying well hydrated in their workplace. Tap water is rigorously monitored by the Drinking Water Inspectorate to ensure it is healthy and wholesome. It provides employers with a cost effective and environmentally friendly alternative to bottled water which often comes in plastic bottles and is transported for hundreds of miles before it reaches the work environment. We have every confidence that tap water is the best and cheapest way to help employers and employees to get their eight glasses of water per day."
