"Water is an absolute requirement for all healthy and active life. The effect of drinking water throughout the day is beginning to be better understood and perhaps the most important thing to remember is that there is no substitute for water.

People forget that the cheapest, most readily available way of preventing dehydration is there at the kitchen tap and Southern Water customers are drinking water which is among the best in Europe after tests showed that more than 99.9 per cent met stringent water quality standards.

Between 2005-2010, we are spending £268 million ensuring our customers continue to receive the best drinking water possible and yet a litre of Southern Water’s water costs our customers just 0.1p.

Fresh water is on-tap each minute of the day and is tremendous value for money. Drinking water regularly while we are at work keeps us more alert and productive and benefits our health. I am, therefore, delighted to support Unison’s initiative Water@Work".
