Home << North East Regional Launch On 30 May 2007 the Water@Work campaign took another important step forward. Northumbrian Water, UNISON, and the North East Strategic Health Authority launched the campaign in the North East. Sir Derek Wanless, Chairman of Northumbrian Water opened proceedings at Durham County Hall by welcoming representatives from key stakeholders in the region and explained why the company was supporting the campaign. This was followed by a series of short speeches by Nick Ellins of Water UK, Steve Bloomfield of UNISON, Debbie Edwards of the Strategic Health Authority and John Mowbray, Director of Corporate Affairs at Northumbrian Water who also chaired the event. Among the organisations present were the North East Chamber of Commerce, Northern Business Forum, UNISON Northern Region, Durham County Council, Association of North East Councils, local MP’s (Kevan Jones and John Cummings) and CC Water. There was unanimous support for the Water@Work campaign and hope was expressed that it could make a significant contribution towards improving the health and wellbeing of employees in the North East. Promoting mains fed drinking water in work places was a more sustainable way of providing water for employees and would draw people’s attention to the high quality of drinking water available from Northumbrian Water at a tap near you!
