Pamela Taylor OBEHome << Supporting statement

"Good hydration is critical for our wellbeing, and yet the understanding of the important role that the nation's tap water can play in boosting workplace health is poor.

Drinking enough water directly contributes to employee health and safety. Even mild dehydration can affect both mental and physical performance and the effects can be made worse by hot working environments, caffeinated drinks and physically demanding jobs.

Good hydration can help to improve workplace concentration, reduce headaches, prevent feelings of tiredness, anxiety and irritability and help prevent many of the minor health complications that can lead to lost productivity and absence from work.

Supplying fresh, well presented tap water also makes good economic sense
and, at around 50 glasses for a penny, offers employers a cost effective
and environmentally sustainable option.

Water UK is delighted to support UNISON in its efforts to protect employee health and safety, improve the work environment and ensure all employees have access to fresh tap water at work".
